Due to the lack of snow this winter in the Lake Tahoe region, Squaw Valley has decided to shut down a week early and will close on Sunday, April 21st.  This winter started out very promising with over a 100″ of snow at the end of December/start of January but unfortunately the weather fizzled out and Squaw Valley received little snow for the rest of the season.  With 2 meager winters in a row in Lake Tahoe, we are all hoping that the winter of 2013/2014 is one for the record books.  My fingers are crossed…

The Nature Valley U.S. Alpine National Championships will return to Squaw Valley for five days of elite ski racing.  Over 250 national club athletes compete against the U.S. National Team to identify both a National Champion and tomorrow’s talent.  World Championship medalists Ted Ligety (Park City, UT), Mikaela Shiffrin (Eagle-Vail, CO) and Julia Mancuso (Squaw Valley, CA) will battle for national titles March 20-24 when the Nature Valley U.S. Alpine Championships return to Squaw Valley. The event will be the region’s chance to see America’s top skiers compete alongside the best U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association club athletes on U.S. soil as they gear up for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
